A free settlement resource for people arriving in British Columbia. Plain-language guides on housing, healthcare, employment and more, built so a stressful first few weeks in a new country come with fewer dead ends — every tip links straight to an official source instead of a forum post.
The problems it solves
Arriving somewhere new means hitting the same walls in the first few weeks:
- Not knowing which office handles what, or what order to do any of it in
- Needing a doctor without understanding MSP, what it covers, or how to enrol
- Qualifications from home not recognised here, with no obvious place to start
- Signing a lease without knowing what a tenant is actually entitled to
- Wanting to improve your English but not being able to pay for classes
- A legal problem and no money for a lawyer
- Answers scattered across forum posts and outdated blogs, with no way to tell which are official

Built for a stressful first week
The whole site is organized around one job: get someone to a trustworthy answer in seconds, not a search results page. A search bar and a language switcher sit right in the header, content is written in short, scannable steps rather than dense paragraphs, and every resource links straight back to the official government or service page it came from.
Findable in eight languages
Search is how most people arrive, so the site is built to be indexed properly in every language it serves:
- hreflang alternates across English, Spanish, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, with an x-default for everyone else
- A generated sitemap covering 104 pages, declaring each page's language alternates alongside it
- Canonical URLs and WebSite structured data so search engines resolve the right version of a page
- Per-page titles, descriptions and social cards rather than one site-wide default
- robots.txt pointing at the sitemap, with crawler directives for large image previews and full-length snippets
